Our Programs & Classes

Students and enthusiasts of martial arts have many reasons for their interest in the martial arts. Some are drawn to the physical fitness and weight-loss aspects of training. Others seek to add discipline and self control to their lives. While still others are concerned about safety and self-defense.

Whether you are interested in our programs for mental or physical well being, Sioux Falls Martial Arts Academy offers a number of options that will fit your developmental needs and your busy schedule as well.

Unified Martial Artist Program For Children and Adults
This program combines the best aspects of several martial arts styles. UMA mixes the high, hard kicks of TaeKwonDo with the savvy, street smart self defenses of Hapkido, fill in the gaps with kickboxing and Brazilian Jujitsu. Round out your training with traditional weapons, such as nunchuku, sword, sai, bo staff, and escrima.

Afterschool Martial Arts Program
Your children can have their martial arts training by the time you get finished at work! We pick them up from school, let them eat a snack, provide their uniform and an hour of class, and have them ready to go home by 5pm. Pickup as late as 6pm. Cost is only a monthly tuition and $6 for each day they attend. All costs are tax deductible. Limited class size.

Kickboxing
This program is great for beginners and serious fighters alike! Our Kickboxing Program is broken into three groups; NO CONTACT-for the fitness enthusiast, LIGHT CONTACT-for those who are undecided about competition and FULL CONTACT-for those aspiring to be Chuck Norris someday. This class gets incredible results as a step up from CardioKickboxing or TaeBo.

The cost of the class is $30/month; a pair of boxing gloves runs $25.

Lil' Dragons Preschool Martial Arts
This is a parent/child interaction class where we focus on listening and social skills, balance and coordination, manners and discipline. We earn patches in Traffic Safety, Stranger Awareness, and Anti-Drug, to name a few. Cost is $35/month and classes are Tuesday and Thursday 6-6:30pm and Monday and Wednesday 9:30-10am.

Self Defense Classes
Offering basics in self defense in four 45-minute sessions for your convenience. Times are 5pm, 6pm, and 7pm most weeknights. The cost is $39, with no gear or uniform needed. There is a six-month expiration, although it is possible for the student to complete the course in only two days. Basic kicks and strikes, legal rights, knife defenses, avoidance strategies, and techniques against grabs and ground assault are covered. This course is available to groups at their location.

ALL-DAY SUMMER CAMPS FOR KIDS
Available from early morning to as late as 6pm, all expenses are tax-deductible as child care, and our students are active outside the Academy from 9am to 3pm with community offerings such as the library program (with daily reading times), crafts, Parks and Rec programs, and Children's Theatre. We swim every day it's pretty, go to the movies (at no extra cost!), and visit every museum in town. Lunch is included, and cost is $25/day for non-enrolled students. You can participate for one day or the entire 64.  Pre-payments and full-time recieve substantial discounts. Space is limited, so call today! During the week of June 16, we went to the library for books and games (we participate in their reading program), visited a playground every day, swam every day, took a tour of the jail downtown, watched "Illusion" with Rusty Ammerman, "Six-Legged Wonders" by the Butterfly House, "Bigger Than Life" by Storyland Children's Theatre, "Chapter Three!" by The University of Sioux Falls, and took five martial arts classes! What did YOUR kids do that week?

FROM A HAPPY MOM: "I was seeking childcare for the summer and looking in the Yellow pages. I noticed the Summer Camp Ad for Sioux Falls Martial Arts and I called. After hearing about the camp and speaking with Master Estes, I remember thinking…

This is too good to be true.

We registered and camp started soon after. I am writing to recommend this program and commend Master Estes. I feel privileged to be able to participate here; it has been a wonderful experience. My little boy likes attending here. He is so proud of the Taekwondo that he has learned, loves to be taken on daily activities like swimming, hiking, scavenger hunts, and tours of the town. It amazes me when we are going about our business, and he recognizes something, then shares his stories and experiences that happened 'over there' during camp. Far more stimulating than being contained in a small room with white walls, and 15 other class mates ALL DAY.

Personally, I have learned more from Master Estes than any other person about children. Here are a couple of my favorites:

When attending a movie they "do not need' treats. Maintain direct eye contact when someone is speaking. Pop tarts do not constitute breakfast.

Thank you, Master Estes, for a positive, enriching learning experience for all of us.

Shelly Roth (instructor's note)Mr. Roth lost ten pounds over the course of the summer camp and is on the road to fitness! He enrolled in the regular UMA classes in the fall!

Lil' Dragons Child Development Center
Sioux Falls Martial Arts has expanded their sphere of influence not only to Lil' Dragons coming into two different class times, but to parents needing child care during the day. Now, children ages 3 and older can enroll in a highly structured, success-focus curriculum of not only preschool excellence, but behavior management for even the most difficult child. Annexing to the facility at 12th and Kennedy Ave., the Lil' Dragons Child Development Center will accept children as early at 5:30am until 6pm for competitive prices, teaching physical fitness, nutrition, safety, martial arts skills (which benefit ANY sports program!), traditional preschool programs, and much more. Field trips are the norm rather than the exception, traveling out daily to parks, the library, and the museum activities, to name a few.

Call 575-0958 or E-mail TODAY to receive your informational packet. But HURRY! Space is limited and we anticipate we will fill up quickly.

School age students are also being accepted during the summer when school is out, and during the school year for before- and after-school training.

"My husband, Dan, and I cannot say enough good things about Lil Dragons daycare! Master Estes' new facility not only gives our daughter, Jasmine (5), an active Pre-K day that includes martial arts lessons! , but it also teaches her real-world social skills and ethics. The "martial arts" after school care also provides an active, yet skill-building outlet for our son, Jordan (6), who was previously coming home from school like an animal that had been let out of a cage! It's such a welcome change to be able to pick up both Jordan and Jasmine after work now, as they are ready to settle down for dinner and share stories of what they learned that day..." -- Colleen
