The website for our new Academy is www.success4mychild.net. In the meantime, we would like to offer some information on our new Lil’ Dragon’s Child Development Academy. If you are one of the thousands of parents in Sioux Falls who work outside the home and you have small children, you need someplace to place them when they can’t be with you. There are many excellent day cares in the city who will give you your child back just as good as you left him.

But is that good enough for you? Don’t you want him returned to you BETTER?

Sioux Falls Martial Arts Academy has been teaching the Lil’ Dragons martial arts curriculum to preschoolers for over a decade. In that time, Master Estes found that parents and children alike struggle with the acquisition of the personal skills necessary to be a success in our fast-paced, highly competitive society. During the classes, she tries to instill the martial arts values of courtesy, integrity, a strong work ethic, compassion and more as a life-style for personal achievement and cultural improvement. But she became frustrated with the lack of time to help these families most effectively.

So Master Estes developed the Lil’ Dragon Child Development Program. It has already been nationally recognized and she traveled to Las Vegas in November to receive an award for “Most Innovative Program”. She has endured months of construction and paperwork to comply with city and state regulations on day care licensing so she can reach out to the parents of Sioux Falls for the absolute best in child development training.

We all want our children to be happy, but is that found in a television set or video game? Master Estes believes that happiness is found in a safe environment, strong sense of self-worth, lots of exercise and healthy food, and plenty of loving friends and family. The Lil’ Dragons Child Development Academy is offering training for children and their families to teach the behaviors necessary to excel at school and create a home environment that is a relief when coming home.

Our website at www.success4mychild.net will feature parental information on behaviors such as violence, dishonesty, bedtime battles and others. Seminars will be offered to the families of enrolled children on important issues in the home. Parents will be able to access the activities of their children every moment, whether they are at lunch, swimming, attending community programs, or in their martial arts class. Each child will be attending the Lil’ Dragons martial arts class AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE, and participate in three hours of preschool daily. We have been fortunate to acquire the preschool building at 12th & Kennedy, previously the Tiny Tots Day Care. The preschoolers will eat there, have play times both inside and out, and receive their preschool and art training. They will take their martial arts class and have other activities at the main Academy at 26th & Sycamore, in addition to daily outings to the park, swimming, library programs, and more.

You may be asking yourself how much more expensive this program will be, considering the benefits of cutting-edge interaction techniques, superior preschool and supplemental instruction, martial arts training, and a daily schedule of outings and activity. You may be surprised to find . . .

. . . it’s no more than a home day care. Cost is $25/day for both preschoolers and school age children. State assistance is available. The Academy will be open from 5am to 6pm weekdays for ages 3 and older. But there’s a catch – we only have so much space. When those spaces are full, we will be starting a waiting list. WEIGHT TRAINING

Whether you want to get into shape for competition or just get into shape, everyone will tell you that weight training is essential in your personal training for developing good muscle tone, strength, endurance, and depending on your goals, size. Weight training will have your body burning calories even when you're not working out and, in conjunction with good nutrition, will have those excess pounds dropping off. Weight training also allows for stress release and the production of endorphins which will lower blood pressure and help relaxation for deep, restful sleep.

NUTRITION

The old saying, "Garbge in, garbage out" applies to your body as well. An excellent program of weight training and cardiovascular workouts in your personal training won't give you the health you need if you don't maintain a good diet. Brad will help you decide what your personal needs are in relation to likes and dislikes, convenience, protein/carbohydrate ratios, and calorie intake. Don't sabotage your fitness program with food that works against you!

CARDIOVASCULAR TRAINING

You won't be healthy if your heart isn't doing it's job. Figure in stress, polluted environment, poor nutrition, sedentary employment, and all-around lack of exercise, and you have all the ingredients for poor health. Recommendations for cardiovascular exercise in your personal training is no less than three times a week, As your personal trainer, Brad will help you decide which of the dozens of ways you can do your cardio, and help you set target rates, days, times, and intensity. There's even the option of taking the Kickboxing class at the Academy in the evenings or Saturday morning. This class combines calisthenics with kickboxing moves. It's important not to incur an injury when doing your cardio, and Brad's recommendations will help. Burn calories and do your body good . . . Sweat!

YOUR TRAINER

Brad Johnson has lived in Sioux Falls most of his life and started martial arts training while still in his teens. Holding a black belt in both Taekwondo and Hapkido, Brad is a national gold medalist in sparring. He has had a deep involvement with weight training for the past decade and is dedicated to the differences he creates as a personal training instructor. Brad is currently on staff at Sioux Falls Martial Arts Academy as both a personal trainer and a martial arts instructor.
