Kickboxing

Kickboxing is beginning to move into the international spotlight as a way to get fit, compete, and offer self-defense skills.

Many beginning students fail to understand the level of physical fitness required prior to entering the ring, and the amount of time needed to develop reflexes and strategy.  To the untrained eye, kickboxers simply flail at each other in the most powerful techniques they know.

Kickboxing actually involves hundreds of hours of training in footwork, proper technique, body  positioning, and opponent placement in addition  to rigorous conditioning to provide the optimum power and speed for the sport.  Our classes focus on all these aspects, and more.

LEVEL 1 -
There are those students who want to enjoy the physical fitness and self-defense aspects of kickboxing, but are not necessarily interested in receiving contact. There is nothing wrong in utilizing the training for developing both upper and lower body conditioning, and we welcome the Level 1 students.  These kickboxers perform the exercises, practice the footwork alone and with a partner, and learn the techniques in the air, on hand targets, and on the bags.  Although they may train with a partner without contact, they are exempt from receiving any contact personally.  They may elect to work with a Level 2 or Level 3 training partner who is willing to take contact, but it is not mandatory.  In addition, in the event they feel they would like to step up to light or full contact, that option is always available.  Many  students are apprehensive about contact, but find it “wasn’t as bad” as they thought.

LEVEL 2 -

The only difference between the Level 1 student and the Level 2 is that the latter kickboxer will receive light contact to the body.  Punches to the head are not touching, and there is no bruising or other evidences of the harder training.  However, this Level allows the student to experience not having to “pull” their punches and kicks as much, and they have the option of working with a Level 3 student, who would be willing to take harder hits.  Again, there is always the option to either step down to Level 1 should they feel uncomfortable with the contact, or step up to Level 3 for harder contact, and potential competition.

LEVEL 3 -
This level of student is interested in hard training that results in the optimum physical fitness and competition/self-defense skills.  They are prepared for the time, effort, and discomfort this training requires.
